Bracing for Cold Waves in Northern Region

The northern region is currently experiencing sunny and occasionally hot weather. However, there is a possibility of the first wave of cold air arriving in the coming week.

According to Hoang Phuc Lam, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, the arrival of cold waves in winter will be delayed this year. Traditionally, late September and early October see the presence of weak cold air waves that have a cooling effect on the weather in Northern provinces. However, this year, the cold air is expected to arrive later and with less intensity.

According to Hoang Phuc Lam, there is a potential for 3-5 storms or tropical depressions to occur in the East Sea by the end of 2023.

According to Lam, the Central region experiences its peak rainy season during these months. However, the projected rainfall for this year may be significantly less than the average of previous years. As a result, river floods are not expected to reach the same levels as in 2020 or 2021, due to the minimal rainfall.

According to the meteorological agency, there have been significant changes in the weather this year. It has been determined that the atmosphere and ocean state are currently experiencing El Nino conditions. These conditions are expected to persist until the end of the year, with a probability of approximately 90-95%.
