On April 28 (local time), Nguyen Vu Bao Chau won all 11 opponents she encountered in the under-age-8 (U8) women’s blitz chess event, winning 11 absolute points. This result helped Nguyen Vu Bao Chau win the gold medal.

Chau faced many challenges in this tournament but managed to perform well. One day earlier, in the rapid chess tournament, Nguyen Vu Bao Chau won a silver medal, also in the U8 age group. The Vietnamese player only arrived in Albania one day before the tournament started. In the final round against opponent Yudina Agata, the Vietnamese youth chess player managed to secure victory despite playing with the black pieces. Chau’s gold medal is the sole gold for the Vietnamese youth chess team in this tournament.

Together with Chau, members of the Vietnamese children’s chess team participated with a total of 15 players, fully participating in the competition content of the tournament at ages U8, U10 and U12. The Vietnamese delegation had another medalist, including a silver medal in the men’s U10 blitz chess event by Nguyen Truong Khang An and a bronze medal in the women’s U12 blitz chess event by Nguyen Minh Chi.

With impressive overall results, the Vietnamese chess player will take part in the FIDE World School Rapid and Blitz Championships 2024 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan from August 1-8.
