According to VnEconomy, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was reached during a visit by a delegation from California, which included representatives from the San Francisco Bay Area Council and the Vietnamese-American Business Association (VABA). The delegation was led by Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao.

The two parties will establish a strong collaboration in port operations, offering valuable insights in port management and operations. This alliance aims to strengthen relationships to foster market development and increase the flow of transshipment goods. Additionally, we will facilitate connections between importers and exporters, which will ultimately enhance trade links among businesses in Long An province and California, as well as between Vietnam and the US.

According to VietnamPlus, Thao aimed to facilitate knowledge about the local business environment and promote cooperation between two localities, specifically the Port of Oakland and Long An International Port, during a productive meeting with local leaders.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Nguyen Van Duoc, highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Vietnam and the United States. Since the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic ties on July 12, 1995, and the subsequent development of a comprehensive partnership on July 25, 2013, the two nations have fostered a partnership founded on mutual interests, respect, and people-to-people connections.

The Long An province is keen on further strengthening and expanding its sustainable cooperative relationship with investors from the United States, stated a spokesperson.

According to the official website of Long An International Port, the port serves as a crucial link between Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region, along with the Mekong Delta. Its strategic location enables seamless connectivity with the rapid industrial and urban development of Ho Chi Minh City.

These projects are primarily focused on various sectors including environment, packaging production, pharmaceuticals, toys, apparel, and factory leasing.

The Port of Oakland is widely recognized as one of the largest and most influential international ports globally. As part of our commitment to fostering growth and enhancing operational efficiency, we are pleased to announce a new cooperation agreement with Long An International Port. This partnership is designed to drive significant improvements in the port’s operations and handling capacity, positioning it for even greater success in the future.

Long An International Port, invested by Dongtam Group, is currently one of the largest ports in Vietnam. Covering an impressive area of 147 hectares, it officially connected its seven berths on June 24, 2023. These berths boast a remarkable continuous length of 1,670 meters. In the upcoming phase of development, Long An International Port is set to expand its scale to include nine berths. Once completed, the port will stand out as having the longest continuous berth length in Vietnam, measuring an impressive 2,368 meters. This expansion will enable the port to accommodate ships of up to 100,000 DWT, further enhancing its operational capacity to handle 3,000,000 TEU.
