On the morning of December 3, at Song Hau Park Square (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City), the opening ceremony of the Can Tho Heritage International Marathon 2023 was held. The event was organized to create a professional playground for Vietnamese people who love running and its positive impacts for mind and body. Another goal is to expand the long-distance running community in the country and around the world.

According to the Organizing committee, Can Tho City wished to introduce the image and people of Can Tho to domestic and international tourists through this marathon.

This is the third time the marathon has been held, attracting 9,000 athletes. According to the Organizing Committee, this year witnessed an increase of 300% in the number of participants compared to the first season). Runners are registered to participate in four competition distances including 5 km, 10 km, half marathon (21 km), and a full marathon (42.195 km).

The route starts from Song Hau Park and passes through Can Tho’s most famous landmarks and tourist attractions such as Ninh Kieu Wharf, Lo Vong Cung Road, and Cai Rang Floating Market.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien hopes that the exciting event would encourage the city’s people to practice sports. At the same time, it motivates tourism development for the city – a riverside urban area with great potential for developing eco-tourism, resort tourism, and discovery tourism.
