THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi has pledged to collaborate with state agencies and international organizations to enhance air quality management, aiming to create a green, clean, beautiful, and livable capital where residents can enjoy fresh air, according to Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee.

Speaking at the “Clean Air for a Blue Sky” event held on the pedestrian street in Hoan Kiem Ward on November 1, Quyen highlighted the city’s comprehensive efforts to control pollution, promote green transportation, and encourage eco-friendly lifestyles.

“The city prioritizes emission control from traffic as a critical breakthrough, a sector closely guided by Party and State leaders, including General Secretary To Lam,” Quyen stated.

Hanoi has launched the Air Quality Management Plan until 2030 and Plan No. 267 to implement the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 20, focusing on restricting individual vehicles and combating environmental pollution. The city is also transitioning its public transport fleet to clean energy, with a goal of all buses running on clean energy by 2030.

In addition to policy and infrastructure improvements, Hanoi is enhancing air quality monitoring, forecasting, and public disclosure, developing early warning systems, and raising public awareness. Residents are encouraged to adopt greener daily habits and transportation choices.

“These initiatives underscore Hanoi’s unwavering commitment to reducing emissions and fostering a sustainable green lifestyle among its residents,” Quyen added.

Regarding the “Clean Air Vietnam 2025” initiative by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), Quyen affirmed Hanoi’s readiness to lead its implementation, supporting national goals for improved air quality, public health, and sustainable development.

“Every resident and business can contribute to cleaner air through small actions like using eco-friendly transport, avoiding waste burning, and planting trees,” he emphasized.

“Aligned with the net-zero emissions goal by 2050, today’s event serves as both a communication campaign and a call to action: act today for tomorrow’s clean air,” Quyen concluded.
