Recently, the spouse of the Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt, Do Thu Trang, hosted a culinary event, introducing Vietnamese cuisine and culture to international friends and spouses of the diplomatic corps in Cairo.
The highlight of the event was a hands-on demonstration of how to prepare and cook Vietnam’s iconic crispy fried spring rolls (nem ran). Guests enthusiastically participated in the cooking process, learning the ingredients and techniques required to create this delicious dish.
The guests expressed their appreciation for the unique experience and affirmed that they would attempt to recreate the spring rolls at home.

In addition to the spring rolls, Trang also introduced the guests to other traditional Vietnamese dishes, including chicken and beef pho, banh cuon (steamed rice rolls), and a unique dessert – gac fruit cake. She provided a detailed explanation of the ingredients and cooking methods for each dish, offering a comprehensive insight into Vietnamese cuisine.
The guests were grateful for the opportunity to learn about traditional Vietnamese dishes and expressed their love for Vietnamese culture and cuisine. They hoped for more such events in the future, reaching a wider audience of international friends.
The group of diplomatic spouses and partners in Cairo is an active community, consisting of around 60 members. They regularly organize cultural exchange activities, such as handicraft exhibitions and tree-planting initiatives, contributing to global carbon reduction efforts and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
The group’s activities are well-received and supported by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and the Foreign Minister’s spouse, serving as an effective platform to promote Vietnamese culture among the diplomatic community and international friends.
