According to an official from the transport department, the agency suspended Vu Van Vuong, who is the head of its inspection unit, from work pending the results of the investigation into the fatal accident.
Vuong was reportedly involved in a car accident that happened on November 21, causing the death of a female worker. He was also said to have driven the car in the wrong direction.
According to preliminary findings, the accident unfolded at around 11:00 pm when Vuong was driving a car to the Gao Market in Hung Yen City from Tien Lu District, Hung Yen Province, located in northern Vietnam, which is about 47 kilometers from Hanoi.
At the time Vuong was driving past a house at 205 Le Van Luong Street, An Tao Ward, when it collided with a taxi and then crashed into a woman’s motorbike. She died on the spot after the crash. The woman was V.T.H., 38, who lived in Tien Lu District, Hung Yen Province.
H. was a janitor for Hung Yen Urban Environment and Public Works JSC.
Vuong fled the scene after causing the accident but he turned himself in to local authorities at around 10:00 am the following day.
Early this week, the provincial Department of Transport suspended Vuong from work for 15 days to undergo the investigation. He was also asked to write a report on the car accident.
Despite the fact that Vuong was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, a leader from the department said his report claimed he was not under the influence.
Still, police will investigate whether or not he consumed alcohol before getting into the vehicle, said the leader.
The leader also refused to comment on the case, citing that the car accident is an ongoing investigation, Kim Thoa – Chi Tue reported on Tuoi Tre News
