With total prizes worth US$15,000, the tournament took place as an International Tennis Federation (ITF) Men’s World Tennis Tour in Cancun from November 22 to 28.

At the 703rd position in the men’s tennis ATP Rankings, Vietnamese star player Ly Hoang Nam was the third seed of the tournament.

Nam won his matches with two rivals from the U.S. and Slovenia before reaching the final against Giles Hussey, who was 166 places behind him.

Although Hussey had had a great run at the M15 Cancun Tournament 2021, including his surprising victory over Japanese No. 1 seed Makoto Ochi in the semifinals, before listing his name in the finale, the British representative was regarded as the underdog to Nam.

Hussey was caught unprepared in decisive moments in the first set, which ended up 4-6 in Nam’s favor after 55 minutes.

After taking the first set, Nam got off to a confident start in the second to take a 3-0 lead, before advancing to a 6-4 victory and handing the overall 2-0 defeat to Hussey.

This is the second time Nam has secured a title at global tennis tournaments this year.

He earlier claimed the M15 Sharm El Sheikh Tournament 2021 in Egypt.

Following Sunday’s triumph, the Vietnamese winner received a prize worth $2,160, along with 10 more points as part of the ATP Rankings.

The No. 1 tennis player in Vietnam, Nam has so far gained four professional tour titles in his career, including the M15 Cancun Mexico in November 2021, the M15 Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt in October 2021, the Vietnam F5 Futures in September 2016, and the Thailand F3 Futures in June 2017.
