Although Tung was unsuccessful in his initial two snatch efforts, he managed to score a total of 116, 147, and 263 for all three of his clean and jerk lifts.

That set a new personal best for Tung, who has won twice as an Asian junior champion and is still young enough to compete in the juniors at 19.

His teammate, Ngo Son Dinh, earned the silver medal of the men’s 55-kilogram event of the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships, which is taking place in South Korea’s South Gyeongsang Province from May 5 to 13. He placed second on 117-143-260.

Do Tu Tung, an 18-year-old weightlifter from the northern Vietnamese province of Bac Ninh, has achieved remarkable success both domestically and internationally. In 2017, he won three gold medals in his first participation in the National Youth and Junior Championships. This was then followed by an even more impressive feat in 2018, where he won three gold medals, including a world record, in the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships in Uzbekistan. His success has been a source of pride for Vietnam, showing that dedication and hard work can lead to great rewards.

Tung continued his impressive streak in 2019 by winning three gold medals and setting three new world records in the men’s under 49 kilogram weight category at the World Youth Weightlifting Championships in the U.S. He also earned four additional gold, one silver, and one bronze medals, and broke two Asian records at the 2019 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in North Korea.

After a two-year hiatus from international competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tung made a triumphant return by winning three gold medals at the 2022 Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships in Bahrain. His impressive performance was a testament to his dedication and hard work in the face of adversity. This victory further cemented his standing as one of the top weightlifters in Asia.

Vietnamese weightlifter Do Tu Tung, 18, made history on Friday at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in South Korea by clinching two gold medals in the men’s 55-kilogram category, reinforcing his reputation as a promising up-and-coming talent in the sport.

Although Tung was unsuccessful in his initial two snatch efforts, he managed to score a total of 116-147-263 for all three of his clean and jerk lifts.

That set a stunning personal record for Tung, who has won twice as an Asian junior champion and is still youthful enough to lift in the juniors at 19.

His teammate, Ngo Son Dinh, came in second place with a score of 117–143–260, earning the silver medal in the men’s 55-kilogram event of the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships. The competition is currently taking place in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, and will run from May 5 to 13.
