Baasankhuu Myagmarsuren of GSB Dong Nai and Igor Frolov of Ho Chi Minh City-Vinama were the first riders to break away during the 163-kilometer journey from Quang Binh Province to Thua Thien-Hue Province.

But the rest of the pack easily held them back shortly after.

After many unsuccessful attempts of separating from the group, the bunch rushed to the finish together.

Notably, Tran Tuan Kiet of Dopagan Dong Thap, who was leading in points, was dragged by a chain drop problem in the last 100 meters, thereby failing to pull out competitive sprint.

As a result, Kiet could not retain the blue jersey of the points classification after winning it just the previous stage.

He returned it to his teammate, Quang Van Cuong, who also held the prestigious yellow jersey for the overall lead.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Tan Hoai of Tap Doan Loc Troi proved in great form to win the tenth stage after three hours, 44 minutes and 12 seconds.

This was also Hoai’s second consecutive stage win after another in the ninth leg.

The cyclists were scheduled to race 11 laps around Hue City in Thua Thien-Hue Province covering 54 kilometers in the 11th stage on Saturday.

The HTV Cup race has been held annually since 1989 and is considered Vietnam’s ‘Tour de France.’

In its 34th edition, the competition will take 98 cyclists from 14 competing teams through 2,316.2 kilometers in 23 stages from north to south in celebration of Vietnam’s reunification day on April 30, 1975.
