Hosted by the Hue City People’s Committee in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea (RoK) in Vietnam, the two-day Vietnam – RoK Cultural Day 2025 is a cornerstone of the 2025 national cultural diplomacy initiative. This event aims to strengthen the bond and collaborative efforts between Vietnam and the RoK.
Beyond its role as a cultural and artistic exchange, the event serves as a significant platform for people-to-people diplomacy, underscoring Hue’s commitment to global integration and its emerging status as a key administrative city. It facilitates tangible cooperation across culture, tourism, trade, and creative sectors.
Phan Thanh Hai, Director of Hue’s Department of Culture and Sports, highlighted the RoK’s pivotal role as a longstanding partner. Over two decades, numerous RoK-funded projects have made substantial impacts. Since 2007, Hue has executed six ODA projects totaling approximately USD 55 million. From 2022 to 2026, the city continues to benefit from non-refundable aid via the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), while Korean investment interest grows with multiple projects in progress.
Cultural ties have thrived through music, film, culinary arts, and fashion exchanges during the Hue Festival and Community Ao Dai Week, deepening mutual understanding and positioning Hue as a hub of creativity and connectivity.
The Vietnam – RoK Cultural Day 2025 not only strengthened diplomatic ties but also offered locals an immersive experience of Korean culture. Hai expressed optimism for future cultural and artistic collaborations, alongside expanded cooperation between Hue and Korean regions.
Attendees enjoyed hands-on activities such as trying Hanbok, participating in traditional Korean games, savoring authentic dishes, joining K-pop dance sessions, exploring handicrafts, and witnessing traditional craft demonstrations. Notably, Gyeongju, Korea’s historic capital and host of the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, participated for the first time.
A standout feature was the fusion of traditional and contemporary performances, including Hue’s royal court music—a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage—alongside Korean traditional music (Gugak) and vibrant K-pop and V-pop showcases.
The event featured performances by Korea’s Uheeska art troupe, Vietnamese artist Minh Hang, and talents from Hue and beyond, creating a unique blend of heritage and modernity.
