Vietnam are set to make history by playing in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games women’s football final for the fifth consecutive year, after their victory over hosts Cambodia in the semifinals on Friday. This remarkable feat is an incredible achievement for the team, as they look to extend their unbeaten streak for a fifth successive year.
The defending champions, who just claimed the gold medal for women’s football in the postponed 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam in May 2022, began the match with a number of substitute and junior players, enjoying an easy game.
Ngan Thi Van Su, Pham Hai Yen, and Tran Thi Thuy Trang each scored a goal in the first half, giving the Vietnamese women’s team a comfortable 3-0 lead. With their impressive performance, the trio of players put the team in a great position to secure a victory. The goals were a testament to their individual skill and the team’s cohesive play. The team continued to dominate the game in the second half, ensuring their well-deserved victory.

In the second half, Vietnam decreased their pace and earned one more goal, courtesy of Huynh Nhu, to finish the game 4-0 and advance to the women’s football final for the fifth consecutive time and the tenth time in total history.
They will face Myanmar, who came back to defeat Thailand 4-2 in the other semifinal match on the same day, in the final clash at 7:00 pm on Monday.
The 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, hosted by Cambodia, will be held in the country’s capital Phnom Penh, Siem Reap Province, Preah Sihanouk Province, Kampot Province, and Kep Province from March 18 to May 17. This will be the first time that Cambodia has hosted the SEA Games, and it will be the second time that the games have been held in the Southeast Asian region since the Philippines hosted the 2019 SEA Games.
The opening ceremony for the 2023 SEA Games is scheduled to take place on March 18 at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh. The stadium, which has the capacity to host up to 40,000 spectators, is the largest of its kind in Cambodia and will be the scene for several of the sporting events during the SEA Games.
In preparation for the Games, several sports facilities have been built or renovated in the host cities. This includes the construction of a new athletics track, a swimming pool, and a new aquatics center in Phnom Penh, as well as new stadiums in Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep.

Vietnam sent an impressive delegation of 1,003 members to the tournament, setting a new record in the country’s sporting history for the largest number ever dispatched to a SEA Games edition.
The nation topped the medal tally with 75 gold, 68 silver, and 80 bronze medals as of 12:20 pm on Saturday, holding a significant lead over Thailand, which had garnered 60 gold, 43 silver, and 69 bronze medals.
Host Cambodia has achieved an impressive tally of medals at the event, coming third with 58 gold, 47 silver, and 63 bronze medals. This impressive performance has put them in a strong position to compete at the top of the medal table.
