During his welcoming address, Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium Nguyen Van Thao emphasized Vietnam’s eagerness to bolster collaboration with Wallonia across various sectors. Key areas of focus include biotechnology, smart agriculture, and clean agriculture—fields where Wallonia excels and which align seamlessly with Vietnam’s sustainable development goals.
Ambassador Thao highlighted the significant strides in bilateral relations between Vietnam and Belgium, particularly noting the recent state visit by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in April. This visit has ushered in a new era of deeper and more comprehensive cooperation, benefiting not only Vietnam and Belgium as a whole but also the Wallonia region specifically.
In a conversation with Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Belgium, Wallonia’s Minister-President Adrien Dolimont underscored Vietnam’s status as a long-standing partner. He pointed out that the royal visit earlier this year reinforced the enduring bond between Vietnam and Belgium, with a special emphasis on the Wallonia region. The regional government is actively identifying priority areas to expand collaboration, aiming to swiftly translate these efforts into tangible outcomes that benefit both parties.
Willy Borsus, President of the Parliament of Wallonia, explained that Vietnam’s selection as the guest of honor reflects the robust, effective, and amicable ties between the two regions. He advocated for further deepening this relationship, not only in investment and trade but also in cultural exchanges, tourism, and people-to-people interactions.
