The event, jointly organized by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and China. VNAT Deputy Director Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, emphasizing shared historical, cultural, and societal bonds. She noted that tourism collaboration is built on a robust legal framework, supported by numerous agreements and strategic plans.
Both Vietnam and China prioritize each other’s markets, with striking parallels between Vietnamese destinations and Shaanxi’s cultural sites. Mai pointed to Hue’s imperial heritage, featuring royal monuments and tombs, and Ninh Binh’s ancient capital of Hoa Lu, home to the UNESCO-listed Trang An Landscape Complex. These similarities have fueled mutual tourism interest, with Vietnam welcoming 4–5 million Chinese visitors annually. In 2023, over 3.5 million Chinese tourists visited Vietnam in the first eight months, while Vietnamese travelers increasingly explore China’s cultural and natural wonders.
Mai expressed optimism for growing visitor exchanges. Liu Hairong, Deputy Director of Shaanxi’s Department of Culture and Tourism, described Vietnam as a top destination for Chinese travelers, citing Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Hue’s Imperial Citadel, and Ho Chi Minh City. She invited Vietnamese partners to the 2026 Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo, advocating for joint initiatives to enhance tourism offerings and bilateral ties.
Shaanxi, a cradle of Chinese civilization, blends history and modernity with its cultural and ecological richness. As the capital of 13 dynasties, including the Tang, and the starting point of the Silk Road, Shaanxi boasts UNESCO treasures like the Terracotta Army, Xi’an City Wall, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s Mausoleum, and Mount Hua. The event showcased Shaanxi’s tourism through a photo exhibition, intangible cultural heritage displays, and creative industries. Tourism stakeholders from both nations signed agreements to strengthen information sharing, traveler support, and promotional efforts.
