As the distinguished winner in the Established Artist category, Van Thuc was awarded a substantial cash prize of VND500 million. He will proudly represent Vietnam at the prestigious UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year 2025 competition in Singapore this November, competing alongside national winners from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Victor Ngo, CEO of UOB Vietnam, emphasized that the competition is a testament to the Singapore-based bank’s dedication to nurturing artistic talent and fostering a vibrant, sustainable art ecosystem in Vietnam and across the region.

By providing a platform for both emerging and established artists, the event showcases their creations to a global audience, amplifying the presence of Vietnamese art on the international stage, as highlighted by Ngo.

In the Emerging Artist category, the top honor was bestowed upon Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, a 53-year-old artist from Binh Thuan, for his debut masterpiece, “Self-Portrait, 2025.” This thought-provoking piece draws inspiration from a chest X-ray image and an implanted ICD device, offering a deeply personal reflection on a decade-long medical journey.

The UOB Painting of the Year competition, launched in Singapore in 1982 by the United Overseas Bank (UOB), has since expanded its reach to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, where it debuted in 2023. Over the years, this regional competition has unearthed more than 1,000 exceptional artistic talents across Southeast Asia.
