On November 12, exceptional creative ideas were recognized and awarded in a competition for designing a multifunctional cultural park along the sandbank and riparian areas of the iconic Red River.
Hon Gai Architecture Co Ltd and the Green Lungs Hanoi Consortium were awarded second place for their respective proposals – the ‘Red River Art Cultural Park’ and the ‘Ecological Park’. Meanwhile, the Encity-Siura Studio Consortium secured third place with their innovative ‘Dragon Park by the Red River’ concept.
Notably, the competition organizers decided to withhold the first prize, feeling that none of the submissions quite met the exceptional standard they were seeking.
This event, a highlight of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, took place at the Hanoi Information and Exhibition Center on Dinh Tien Hoang Street in the heart of Hoan Kiem District.

According to Ta Nam Chien, Chairman of the Ba Dinh District People’s Committee, the competition, which launched on May 10, attracted nearly 30 meticulously crafted proposals from renowned design firms and consortiums, both domestic and international.
The primary goal of the competition was to uncover unique and innovative design concepts that would transform the land resources of the sandbank, under the jurisdiction of four Red River districts (Hoan Kiem, Long Bien, Ba Dinh, and Tay Ho), into a vibrant, multifunctional cultural and tourism park.
The proposals were judged based on their ability to optimize land use, enhance the natural advantages of the site, improve the environmental landscape, promote environmental health, and ultimately drive socio-economic development and strengthen national security.
Additionally, the competition aimed to bring to life the approved development plan for the Red River urban area, spanning from Hong Ha Bridge to Me So Bridge.
Pham Tuan Long, Chairman of the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, shares his insights at the event. |
Pham Tuan Long, Chairman of the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, emphasized that while the concepts presented were impressive, further research and refinement would be necessary to ensure their practical application in the face of climate change.
The outstanding ideas generated through this competition will serve as a foundation for the development of the sandbank and riparian areas of the Red River into a world-class, multifunctional cultural park.
“Our vision for this project is to create a cultural industrial center along the Red River, elevating the quality of life for residents and transforming Hanoi into a modern, civilized capital that shines on a regional and global stage,” added Chairman Long.
The award-winning proposals from this competition are currently being showcased at the 2024 Community Creative Ideas Exhibition, a platform that celebrates and nurtures innovative talent across various sectors.
