In 2025, consumer rights protection remains intertwined with the theme, “Transparent Information – Responsible Consumption.” This theme underscores the critical role of awareness among producers, businesses, and consumers themselves. Can you elaborate on this theme and its significance?

For 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has selected the theme “Transparent Information – Responsible Consumption” to mark Vietnam Consumer Rights Day. This theme aims to emphasize the importance of awareness and responsibility in protecting consumer rights among producers, businesses, and consumers. It is particularly pertinent given the prevalence of fraudulent trade practices, deceit, and the provision of incomplete or inaccurate information.

The 2023 Consumer Rights Protection Law underscores the responsibility of providing transparent information and engaging in sustainable, responsible consumption. Meanwhile, consumers are encouraged to make informed choices by selecting products with clear origins and compliance with legal regulations on sustainable consumption.

Additionally, the theme “Transparent Information – Responsible Consumption” aligns with global trends and concerns in the digital transformation and green transformation eras. It also acknowledges the rapid growth of online business, consumption, and e-commerce.

What initiatives and activities will the MoIT implement to observe Vietnam Consumer Rights Day this year?

According to Plan No. 7604/KH-BCT, dated September 27, 2024, the MoIT encourages consumer rights activities during the year-end shopping season of 2024, with a peak in March, extending through 2025. This includes peak business and shopping periods such as New Year’s Day, the Lunar New Year Festival, shopping seasons, and major market sale days. Most provinces and cities across the country have already initiated activities to mark Vietnam Consumer Rights Day.

In alignment with this plan, the MoIT intends to organize a launch ceremony for Vietnam Consumer Rights Day 2025 in Hai Phong on March 14, 2025. They will also conduct communication and information dissemination campaigns, seminars, training sessions, and courses on the theme. Additionally, the ministry will collaborate with businesses to express gratitude to customers and organize public events and competitions focused on legal regulations, knowledge, business skills, and consumer rights protection.

Activities for Vietnam Consumer Rights Day 2025

With such a comprehensive range of activities, what are the MoIT’s expectations for consumer rights protection in the near future?

The National Competition Commission, with the support of party committees, local governments, and related organizations, as well as effective inter-unit coordination, is confident that consumer rights protection will yield positive results soon. We anticipate active participation, support, and collaboration from all relevant parties.

We encourage the business community and consumers to actively engage with and respond to this event. This is especially important in today’s booming e-commerce landscape, where transparent, accurate, and complete information is essential for consumers. By raising awareness and empowering consumers to take an active role in monitoring the responsibility of businesses, we can collectively create a safer consumption environment for all stakeholders.
