Despite the long-distance cross-border delivery, Chinese products are sold at competitive prices in Vietnam, often lower than what local stores can offer.

A resident of Ho Chi Minh City, Duong, experienced this first-hand when she ordered a mini hands-free portable neckband fan from a Chinese online store on Shopee. To her surprise, the item was delivered in just three days, even though it had to travel over 10,000 kilometers from various locations in China, including Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Nanning.

Vietnam: One of China’s Top Import Destinations

Duong’s experience is not unique, as Vietnam has become one of the largest recipients of Chinese goods, according to a representative of Best Cross-Border, a leading logistics company specializing in cross-border deliveries. The company operates a smart logistics center in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, where a vast number of goods from various locations are gathered before being transported to Vietnam.

The efficiency of the logistics center, combined with the smooth expressway that allows for a minimum speed of 80km per hour, ensures that items typically reach Vietnamese customers within a few days. This is made possible by the seamless collaboration between transport companies, who confirm order quantities, handle transportation, and complete customs clearance, making the process effortless for importers.

The 3,000-square-meter warehouse at the logistics center is a bustling hub, with employees working diligently to check item weights and sizes, affix labels, and prepare shipments to Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries. The warehouse caters to a diverse range of customers, including Chinese firms operating in Vietnam, individuals and companies selling on Vietnamese e-commerce platforms, and the platforms themselves.

Night-Time Border Crossings for Faster Delivery

The speed and efficiency of deliveries are further enhanced by Chinese drivers who transport goods to Vietnam several times a week. These drivers are permitted to maintain a steady speed on the expressway, ensuring that packages can travel from China to a Vietnamese border gate in just one night. For even faster service, Chinese sellers can hand over goods directly to Best Cross-Border at the border, and Vietnamese customers will receive their orders by the next morning.

Efficient Warehousing and Local Transportation in Vietnam

On the Vietnamese side, efficient warehousing and local transportation play a crucial role. Thinh, a 48-year-old Vietnamese driver with two decades of experience, has witnessed the surge in online shopping and the resulting increase in his income. He drives nearly 300 kilometers each day, transporting goods from the Huu Nghi border gate in Lang Son Province to Best Express’ classification center in Bac Ninh Province.

At the spacious 45,000-square-meter classification center, staff work swiftly to unload and automatically sort the goods. By the next day, the items are ready for final delivery, loaded into smaller vehicles for distribution to customers across Vietnam.

Meeting Customer Expectations with Fast Delivery

Chinese sellers understand the importance of meeting customer expectations, and fast delivery is a key part of that. Before reaching buyers in Vietnam, goods go through several steps, including transportation from warehouses in China to the border and the completion of import procedures. Despite these processes, Chinese products often arrive within two to three days of ordering, especially if they are already stocked in local warehouses.

This efficient supply chain, combining cross-border logistics, local transportation, and streamlined import procedures, has enabled Chinese sellers to dominate the Vietnamese market through e-commerce platforms. With competitive prices and swift deliveries, they have captured the attention of Vietnamese customers, who now expect and appreciate the convenience and speed of online shopping.
