The Thang Long–Hanoi Festival 2025 will commence with a grand opening ceremony at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel on November 7, and culminate in a closing event at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square on November 16. This celebration seamlessly blends the ancient charm and modern vibrancy of Vietnam’s capital city.
Hosted by the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the festival is set to attract high-profile attendees, including leaders from various ministries, cities, and provinces nationwide, as well as foreign ambassadors and representatives from international organizations based in Hanoi.
According to the organizers’ press conference on October 21, the festival aims to celebrate Hanoi’s thousand-year cultural legacy and reinforce its esteemed position within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
From November 1 to 9, the Temple of Literature will host an exhibition showcasing traditional crafts from Hoa Lu–Ninh Binh, Thang Long–Hanoi, Hue, and the Central Highlands. Simultaneously, Van Lake will offer visitors a chance to indulge in Hanoi’s culinary delights and explore its artistic spaces from November 1 to 16.
Additional highlights at the Temple of Literature include an ao dai fashion show on November 2, a painting exhibition on Hanoi from November 2 to 16, art performances on November 3 and 8, and an international symposium titled “Educational and Cultural Heritage: East–West Perspectives” on November 3.
The Hanoi Museum will come alive on November 2 with puppetry art performances and interactive activities. A pinnacle event will be the international art program on November 8, featuring Swiss composer Dominique Barthassat alongside creative community groups from Hanoi.
Throughout the 16-day festival, a diverse array of activities will unfold, including the Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival 2025 at the Hanoi Museum and around Hoan Kiem Lake from November 7 to 9, the Hanoi Puppetry Festival on November 15, and night tours to explore Ngoc Son Temple on November 8 and 16.
Marking the 10th anniversary of tug-of-war being recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, an international workshop will be held on November 15. Delegations from the Republic of Korea and other countries will participate in exchange activities and tug-of-war performances on the same day.
