Chau was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 and was therefore selected to represent Vietnam at Miss Universe 2022.

She initially departed for the international competition on December 26, 2022, and put in a strong performance at the contest.

Her sledge mat national costume at the 71st Miss Universe was selected among the Top 10 by prestigious beauty pageant website Missosology.

In the grand final, Chau suffered elimination from prior to Top 16 round, marking the first time a Vietnamese representative has failed to make the later stages of the competition. Earlier, H’Hen Nie, a Top 5 finisher in 2018, Hoang Thuy, Top 20 in 2019, Khanh Van, Top 21 in 2020, and Kim Duyen, Top 16 in 2021, represented Vietnam at the event.

Elsewhere, R’Bonney Gabriel, a model and sewing instructor who is also Miss USA, was crowned winner of the 71st Miss Universe.

Amanda Dudamel of Venezuela and Andreína Martínez of the Dominican Republic were awarded the first and second runners-up titles.

This year’s Miss Universe contest was held in New Orleans (Louisiana), drawing the participation of 84 contestants from around the world.
