Renowned filmmaker Ly Hai has once again made waves in the industry, securing the Best Film Director award, while his latest masterpiece, Lật mặt 8: Vòng Tay Nắng, was honored as the Best Vietnamese Feature Film.
The 2025 Sharjah Film Platform (SFP) showcased an impressive lineup, featuring over 100 submissions from more than 30 countries spanning the Americas, Asia, and Europe. This prestigious event celebrates the ingenuity, cultural richness, and creative narratives of independent filmmakers worldwide.
Lật mặt 8: Vòng Tay Nắng captivates audiences with the inspiring tale of a 17-year-old musical prodigy who defies societal expectations to pursue his passion for music. Alongside his friends, he forms a band, determined to make their mark in the industry. The film boasts a stellar cast, blending fresh talent with seasoned actors like Doan The Vinh, Long Dep Trai, and the esteemed Meritorious Artists Kim Phuong and Tuyet Thu.
Since its debut on April 30, the film has garnered an astonishing VND231 billion (US$8.75 million) in box office revenue within just two months.
Ly Hai, a household name in the 1990s for his pop music, transitioned into filmmaking in 2010. His Lật mặt (Face Off) franchise has been a resounding success, encompassing eight films across various genres, including drama, comedy, action, and thriller.
The inaugural film, Lật Mặt, released in 2015, grossed over VND72 billion (US$2.73 million). The seventh installment, Lật Mặt 7: Một Điều Ước (Face Off 7: One Wish), launched last April, became Ly Hai’s most lucrative production, amassing VND482 billion (US$18.27 million).
