Sinawi, a traditional Korean musical genre steeped in improvisation and spiritual rituals, served as the inspiration for a concert celebrating peace and harmony between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea. This event captured the essence of Sinawi, fostering a cultural dialogue through music.

The concert captivated young audiences with a diverse repertoire, featuring traditional folk pieces like Trống cơm (Cylindrical Drums), Qua cầu gió bay (Crossing the Windy Bridge), and Sanarae. Korean film scores and folk song medleys, including Gang gang sullae, Tứ quý (Four Seasons), Lý chim quyên (The Oriole’s Lament), and Jindo Arirang, further enriched the experience.

A pinnacle moment arrived with the Koviet Sinawi symphony, a collaborative masterpiece performed by Vietnamese and Korean artists. Composed of three movements—The Prayer, Đồng điệu phương Nam (Southern Harmony), and One Ware—this symphony seamlessly intertwined traditional folk elements from both nations, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

The Koviet Sinawi concert is a cornerstone of the “Korea – ASEAN Community Innovation Project,” spearheaded by the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE). This initiative delves into the similarities and differences between Vietnamese and Korean traditional music, culminating in the creation of innovative symphonic works.

Launched in 2024, the project continues its momentum into 2025 with two additional concerts. The first will take place at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City on October 10, followed by a performance at the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi on October 15.
