Besides a stunning orchid festival—one of the 21 major events in the city this year—Tao Dan Park in District 1 will host the event from April 28 to May 2, according to Nguyen Huu Hoai Phu, deputy director of the city’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The biennial festival is expected to honor esteemed orchid brands and products, Phu added.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) sought to collaborate with the Department of Culture and Sports (DCS) to cultivate and boost the orchid farming sector of the city. DARD and DCS hope to join forces to bring about the success of this flourishing business.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will request the municipal administration to formulate policies that support orchid growers, according to Phu. The policies should ensure that these growers are able to continue their operations and benefit from their work. This will help to create a more vibrant and prosperous rural economy. Furthermore, the policies should include measures to encourage the development of new orchid varieties, as well as measures to protect existing orchid varieties.
Aside from the spectacular fireworks displays and the enchanting orchid festival, the city will host a range of art performances at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1, a thrilling bicycle race, solemn ceremonies offering incense in tribute to the late State Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Ton Duc Thang, and several others.
