Led by Truong Viet Dung, a member of the City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, the six-member committee will play a pivotal role in advising municipal authorities on unified policies, strategic planning, and technical solutions for the city’s surveillance network.
The Hanoi Department of Public Security will serve as the standing body, overseeing implementation and reporting progress, while local departments and authorities are tasked with providing regular updates on their designated responsibilities.
By December 2025, Hanoi aims to deploy nearly 1,900 AI-powered cameras, managed by the city’s police force, to bolster traffic safety and maintain urban order. These cutting-edge cameras will process and analyze video data directly at the source, swiftly identifying traffic violations and public security incidents before transmitting information to the monitoring center for verification and database comparison.
This edge-processing technology not only enhances accuracy and reduces latency but also alleviates the burden on central servers, facilitating seamless system expansion. Additionally, the cameras will dynamically measure traffic volume at intersections, providing real-time data to optimize traffic signal cycles, minimize congestion, and reduce waiting times.
The system will also automate the detection of traffic offenses and public security violations, marking a transformative leap in Hanoi’s digital evolution toward a smart city model. Between 2025 and 2030, the city plans to install over 40,000 cameras citywide, solidifying its commitment to innovation and urban development.
