On Tuesday, the hospital announced the successful discharge of its 13th heart transplant patient, T., from their care.
T. had been under intensive treatment for cardiomyopathy for several months prior to the transplant.
Following the heart transplantation, a remarkable recovery ensued, allowing him to regain his health and return home.
The donor, a 36-year-old man identified as L.T.S., hailed from Ha Nam Province in northern Vietnam.
S. was admitted to Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi after suffering a brain hemorrhage that led to convulsions, a coma, and cardiac arrest.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team, S. was declared brain-dead after nine days of treatment. His family, in a selfless act, consented to donating his heart, offering a chance at life for another.
A specialized team from Hue Central Hospital rushed to Hanoi, a distance of approximately 660km, to retrieve the precious heart and transport it back to Hue City, where T. awaited the life-saving surgery.
As a tribute to S. and his family’s selfless sacrifice, a moment of silence was observed before the heart and other organs were removed.
In a race against time, the donor heart was transplanted and began beating in T.’s chest within four hours and 30 minutes, specifically by 1:52 pm on October 26.

The successful procedure prompted celebrations among the medical staff at both hospitals, united in their joy for the recipient’s renewed chance at life.
Dang The Uyen, deputy head of the cardiovascular center at Hue Central Hospital, attributed the swift heart transplantation to advanced techniques that facilitated a faster recovery.
Remarkably, just three days post-surgery, T. had regained his health and was able to eat and take care of himself, a testament to the skill of the medical team and the resilience of the human body.
