A dragon boat racing festival was held in Hanoi’s West Lake on October 9th, to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the city’s Liberation Day (October 10th).
The Hanoi dragon boat racing festival, which started in 2018, features 36 teams from both domestic and international participants.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 tournament had to be postponed from its usual time in the beginning of the year.

Thousands of locals and visitors gathered at West Lake in the early morning before the competition began at 8 am.
The opening event featured special art performances, including dragon and lion dances.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Do Dinh Hong, stated that the Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Racing Festival is an annual tournament organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Vietnam Airlines. The festival has become a popular sporting event in the city and a popular attraction for boat racing enthusiasts.
This year, the festival has attracted over 500 athletes from 36 teams representing Hanoi, other provinces, districts, embassies, and international organizations. The event aims to connect domestic and international communities and promote tourism in Hanoi and Vietnam.

Participants shared their excitement about the event, highlighting the opportunity to exchange and learn from other international students in a friendly competition atmosphere. The German Embassy team and alumni association won first place in the mixed category for foreign embassies and international organizations.

In the overall results, the German Embassy team and alumni association took first place in the mixed category, followed by the US Embassy and Alumni Association in second place, and the British Embassy and alumni association in third place. Additionally, the Tay Ho team won gold in the women’s category and the men’s category.
The event also recognized the HCM City team, as well as teams from Ben Tre and Hanoi, in the Provincial-City category.
