In the past nearly two years, the airport applied stringent procedures in welcoming repatriation flights and passengers nationwide so as to minimise the risks of Covid-19 infections spreading in the community.
The airport has adopted a number of preventive measures by requiring all passengers to wear masks, installing a thermal sensor to check their temperature and disinfecting all airplanes, VnExpress reported.
From February 2020 to September 2021, it welcomed 232 flights carrying 46,722 passengers from different countries.
In September, Van Don airport welcomed several flights with vaccine passport holders on a trial basis, allowing hundreds of Vietnamese from the U.S., France and Japan to return to Vietnam. All passengers were fully vaccinated, in good health and had coronavirus negative results from tests done within 72 hours before their flights.

The AHA certificate recognises the commitment to maintaining safety and prevention measures against the Covid-19 pandemic of airports around the world. The certificate also provides foundation for State management agencies and governments to consider the reopening of international routes between certified airports, thus creating a green corridor for safe air travel. The ACI has set strict assessment criteria for the AHA certificate, including cleaning and disinfection procedures, physical distancing, staff protection, physical layout, passenger communications, and passenger facilities. |
Ha Long Bay: Prized title, spectacular nature were not enough
In 1994, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) added Ha Long Bay in Vietnam’s northeastern province of Quang Ninh to its list of world heritage sites. However, even after gaining the coveted recognition of the spectacular seascape of limestone pillars, Quang Ninh Province was still known mostly for its coalmines. Major tourist development in the province only began 20 years later.
