THE HANOI TIMES — In a bold move to safeguard consumers, businesses, and public health, the Hanoi People’s Committee has announced a citywide crackdown on smuggling and counterfeit goods, set to intensify throughout 2026.

Tasked with spearheading this initiative, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade—acting as the standing body of the city’s Steering Committee 389—will collaborate closely with relevant agencies to swiftly implement the plan in alignment with government directives.

Specialized inspection teams will target high-risk sectors and commodities, prioritizing products that directly impact public health, including food, pharmaceuticals, functional foods, and cosmetics.

Findings from these inspections will empower working groups to recommend actionable solutions to the Hanoi People’s Committee, aimed at strengthening the fight against trade fraud and counterfeit goods.

Local authorities will also ramp up efforts to educate individuals and businesses on relevant legislation, discouraging involvement in fraudulent activities.

E-commerce platforms and social media channels are under heightened scrutiny, with numerous online shops and livestream sellers penalized for trafficking counterfeit luxury items.

Trinh Quang Duc, Director of the Hanoi Market Surveillance Agency, confirmed that the agency will vigorously enforce measures against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit production until the end of 2026, as mandated by the Vietnamese Government.

Collaborating with police, customs, the Hanoi Department of Taxation, and various ministries, the agency aims to fortify market control mechanisms.

“A dedicated interdisciplinary team in Hanoi is proactively tackling counterfeit goods through rigorous inspections, investigations, and public awareness initiatives,” Duc stated.

Under the leadership of the Hanoi Market Surveillance Agency, this team will focus on eradicating smuggling, trade fraud, and intellectual property violations across physical markets and digital platforms, including e-commerce sites and social media.

“The Vietnamese Government’s newly issued resolution underscores an unwavering commitment to combat smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, substandard products, and intellectual property infringements,” Duc emphasized.

These initiatives aim to protect the rights and interests of citizens and businesses, safeguard public health and safety, and foster national security, social order, and sustainable economic growth.

The plan mandates that all officials and public employees adhere to strict standards of professionalism, responsibility, competence, and integrity, with severe penalties for those complicit in violations, guided by the principle: “No concessions, no forbidden zones, no exceptions.”
