A Lifelong Learner’s Journey
Quynh’s academic path began with a focus on literature at the prestigious High School for the Gifted, under the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM). Her intellectual prowess was recognized, and she subsequently gained admission to the highly competitive Computer Science faculty at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, affiliated with VNU-HCM.
However, her passion for knowledge didn’t end there. Quynh went on to excel in the English department at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, graduating near the top of her class with an impressive IELTS score of 8.5/9. This showcases her dedication and talent in language acquisition.
Quynh has a particular affinity for social sciences, yet she always emphasizes the importance of logical thinking in her approach to learning. “Effective learning,” she elaborates, “hinges on self-study, independent thought, and a focus on main concepts rather than rote memorization.”
This method has enabled her to juggle multiple responsibilities while cultivating a diverse skill set. Her outstanding academic performance led to several prestigious job offers. However, Quynh’s values aligned with DOL English, an edtech startup founded by a fellow alumnus from her high school, Le Dinh Luc.
As Quynh embarked on her teaching career and pursued a master’s degree in the UK, she rose to the position of Academic Director at DOL English. Her academic pursuits culminated in a master’s in education with distinction from the renowned University of Nottingham.

At the young age of 24, Quynh surprised many by announcing her engagement to an Englishman. While both families initially expressed concerns about cultural and geographical obstacles, the couple was determined to bridge those differences. Through their commitment and love, they brought the families closer together.
Quynh and her husband became each other’s strongest support system when they welcomed their first child. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions and physical distance from their families, they learned to navigate parenthood independently.
As their first daughter turned two, Quynh discovered she was expecting their second child. Around the same time, she received acceptance into a PhD program at a prestigious UK university.
Empowering Women Through Education
The excitement of furthering her studies was soon met with the challenge of balancing motherhood, work, and research. However, with her husband’s encouragement, Quynh pursued her passion for learning. Today, she is a PhD candidate in linguistics, an academic director, and a devoted mother to her two young children, aged one and four.
Quynh’s doctoral dissertation focuses on an innovative approach: applying problem-solving skills from mathematics to enhance English reading comprehension. She explains that understanding a text is similar to solving a math problem, as both involve processing and connecting information to draw conclusions.
Her research builds upon Linearthinking, a successful method developed by DOL English, which has already proven effective in improving IELTS scores for Vietnamese students. Linearthinking encourages critical, logical, and essential learning and teaching of English, emphasizing logical and mathematical thinking while considering the influence of the mother tongue (Vietnamese) on English studies.
Quynh’s contribution includes memorization techniques to enhance Vietnamese learners’ English skills, fostering thoughtful, logical, and essential language acquisition while developing critical thinking skills. Her research aims to strengthen the theoretical foundation of this approach, leaving a lasting impact on English education.

Despite her busy schedule, Quynh prioritizes self-care and family time. “Spending time with my kids is my favorite way to relax,” she shares. She and her husband also emphasize open communication and mutual understanding in their relationship.
Quynh’s workplace further empowers her, providing an environment that encourages growth and offering full funding for her PhD program. This support fuels her dedication and motivation to excel in her career.
