Perched in the Xa Ho Village of Tram Tau District, Ta Chi Nhu Peak boasts a staggering height of 2,979 meters, earning it the moniker, ‘Heaven of Clouds on Earth.’ As the seventh-tallest mountain in Vietnam, it is a nature lover’s paradise and a challenging trekker’s dream.
Also referred to as the ‘Kingdom of Sun and Wind,’ Ta Chi Nhu is renowned for its vibrant display of purple ‘chi pau’ flowers that carpet the mountaintops every autumn. It is a truly magical sight and a haven for those seeking breathtaking views and an unforgettable nature experience.

Thua Hoa and his adventurous group had their sights set on conquering Ta Chi Nhu in mid-August, but nature had other plans. Twice they had to postpone their journey due to Typhoon Yagi and the dangerous landslides and flash floods that ravaged the northern mountainous provinces last month.
“We initially planned to witness the ‘chi pau’ flowers in their full glory on September 28 and 29, but the persistent heavy rains forced us to delay our trip,” Hoa recounted. “However, we remained steadfast and patient, keeping a close eye on the weather conditions.”
Finally, on October 11, with the sun shining and the roads clear, Hoa and 12 other eager explorers embarked on a night bus to Tram Tau, ready to take on the challenge.
The next day, October 12, marked the beginning of their trek. They set off at 8:00 am from Tram Tau, determined to reach Ta Chi Nhu. Rest stops were made every two hours to ensure the group remained energized, and they spent the night at a rest hut located at an altitude of 2,400 meters.

The following day, they began their ascent in the early hours, navigating through a thick blanket of fog. Over an hour later, they proudly stood atop Ta Chi Nhu Peak. Although the cloud hunting proved challenging at first, their patience was rewarded around 6:30 am when the sun rose, revealing a spectacular sea of floating clouds.
“It was a truly amazing sight,” Hoa recalled, “and the sense of accomplishment we felt made every step worth it.”

On average, several hundred adventurers flock to Tram Tau each weekend, eager to conquer Ta Chi Nhu Peak and take in the stunning scenery.

The cost of a two-day, one-night expedition to Ta Chi Nhu Peak typically ranges from VND3 million (US$120) to VND3.3 million ($132). The ‘chi pau’ flower season is expected to continue until the end of October, so there is still time to catch a glimpse of this natural wonder.
Thua Hoa advises that building endurance and closely monitoring weather conditions are crucial for those planning a similar trek. He also recommends packing appropriately, as the temperature can vary significantly between day and night.
