The cultural event, organized by the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board, is a commemoration of the 69th anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2023).

The exhibition showcases fifty-four artworks from painter Hoang Phong’s collection of one hundred watercolor paintings depicting Hanoi. These paintings offer viewers a glimpse into the olden days of the city.

Artist Hoang Phuong, who has a deep love and nostalgia for Hanoi, captures the poetic and beautiful essence of the city in his works. The paintings portray various aspects of Hanoi, including its old French-style architectural buildings, streets covered in yellow leaves, and quiet deserted alleys.

During the opening ceremony on October 10th, Trinh Hoang Tung, Deputy Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, expressed that Hanoi is currently experiencing its most beautiful autumn days.

Hoang Phuong, who began painting about Hanoi in 2017, has received great inspiration from the city. He spends months in Hanoi searching for painting materials and portrays not only the present but also his emotions and imagination through his art.

“Hanoi has captured my heart,” says the artist. “My love for Hanoi comes from a deep subjective feeling. I cherish the dreamy mornings and quiet nights when the streets are peaceful.”

“Opening a photo exhibition on the anniversary of the capital’s liberation day is an honor and a memorable milestone in my career,” he added.

Born in Ho Chi Minh City in 1987, Hoang Phong is a member of various painting organizations in Ho Chi Minh City, such as the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association and the Mekong Art Club.
