On September 5, MoMo Piggybank Community and VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) handed over a water well and pumping system to Mu Sang Boarding Elementary School in Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province, on the opening day of the new school year.

Phong Tho is a mountainous district located in the north of Lai Chau province, with 96% of the population being ethnic minorities. Clean water access is a major challenge for the people of Phong Tho district, and it is particularly important for the health of children in rural areas. Therefore, providing safe water to underserved ethnic communities like Phong Tho district is crucial.

Thanks to the water well and pumping system, the 500 students and 40 teachers of Mu Sang Boarding Elementary School will no longer have to rely on unsanitary rainwater tanks or travel uphill to the nearest stream to fetch water. This will greatly reduce the risk of water-borne diseases and improve the health and education outcomes for poor ethnic minority children in Lai Chau’s mountainous areas.

“We are thrilled to receive the water well and pumping system. It will greatly improve the lives of our ethnic minority students, as they won’t have to face the hardships and difficulties of accessing safe water anymore,” said Mr. Mai Anh Thang, Principal of Mu Sang Boarding Elementary School.

The donation, valued at VND 233 million, was raised through the Piggybank Community of MoMo e-wallet and will support VCF’s Clean Water program. This program aims to provide access to safe water for disadvantaged ethnic minority children and improve sanitation at schools, ultimately enhancing the overall health status of the rural population in Vietnam.
