According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, a special festival will be held in Lai Chau province from October 6 to 8. The festival aims to celebrate and promote the traditional identities and values of ethnic minorities, educate about patriotic traditions and national pride, and strengthen the unity of the nation.
13 localities, including Lai Chau and its neighboring provinces, will participate in the festival. Additionally, provinces across the country such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Kon Tum will be involved.
The festival aims to introduce and promote the nation’s cultural, sports, and tourism potential and strengths, especially among less-populated ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000. It also seeks to raise awareness and responsibility in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam.
The opening ceremony of the festival will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television and Radio – Television of Lai Chau province. The festival will feature performances of folk music, ritual songs, and dances showcasing the unique features of each locality and traditional costumes of ethnic groups. There will also be exhibitions showcasing cultural products, artifacts, tourism, and traditional crafts.
One of the highlights of the festival is the exhibition “Cultural Characteristics of ethnic groups with a population of fewer than 10,000 people in Vietnam’s ethnicity,” which will showcase their villages, houses, economic activities, traditional crafts, costumes, rituals, and folk festivals. The exhibition will also feature the official logo design for the Festival.

2019 Hue Craft Festival draws 400,000 visitors
