Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, shares that the project’s vision is to transform Duong Lam into an eco-conscious destination, prioritizing environmental sustainability. The initiative aims to educate both residents and tourists on the importance of conserving the village’s natural surroundings and cultural treasures for future generations to appreciate.

Truong Minh Tien, Chairman of the Hanoi UNESCO Association, underscores the timeliness of this initiative given the global crisis surrounding plastic waste. He highlights the tourism industry’s significant role in waste reduction and pollution prevention. “Through this program, we aim to not only enhance the local environment but also promote a greener lifestyle, aligning with Hanoi and Vietnam’s sustainable tourism goals,” he adds.

A pivotal moment in the program was the unveiling of a sign at Duong Lam Ancient Village, proclaiming: “Tourism businesses unite to safeguard our environment: No to Plastic Waste.” This event fostered a sense of collective responsibility as officials and locals worked side by side to maintain the area’s ecological integrity through a comprehensive clean-up drive.

Beyond its environmental focus, the program also offered participants a glimpse into Duong Lam’s rich cultural tapestry. They explored Va Temple and Mia Pagoda, marveling at centuries-old houses and traditional communal sites. The village’s cultural history, local customs, and artisanal crafts further enriched the experience, showcasing Duong Lam’s dynamic and captivating character.

This initiative is a strategic component of the Hanoi Department of Tourism’s overarching strategy to bolster local travel enterprises and craft new tourism routes spotlighting Son Tay Town and Duong Lam Ancient Village’s allure. By championing eco-friendly travel, the initiative is poised to attract environmentally conscious travelers and fuel the long-term growth of the region’s tourism industry.
