In contrast, domestic tourism experienced a more modest growth, with 1.89 million visitors, representing a 5.3% year-on-year increase. February’s total tourism revenue is estimated at VND9.22 trillion ($360 million), indicating a healthy 14.5% rise from the same period in 2024.
Hanoi’s tourism industry continued its upward trajectory in the first two months of 2025, welcoming 4.59 million visitors, a 7.4% increase from the previous year. This included 1.05 million international visitors, a significant 13.0% jump, and 3.54 million domestic tourists, reflecting a steady 5.8% climb. The city’s tourism revenue for this period reached an impressive VND18.25 trillion ($714 million), surpassing the corresponding period in 2024 by 9%.
The occupancy rate for Hanoi’s hotels stood at 62.34% this month, a slight improvement of 1.2% from the same time last year. The city currently offers a diverse range of 97 service facilities that have been recognized for their excellence in meeting tourism standards and catering to the needs of both tourists and locals. These include dining options at 45 food and beverage outlets, 43 shopping venues for memorable souvenirs, seven entertainment spots for a lively evening, and two healthcare service providers for any travel emergencies.
Dang Huong Giang, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, shared insights into their plans for March 2025. The department is set to launch the captivating “Get on Hanoi 2025” program and announce the Hai Ba Trung Temple-Pagoda-Communal House as a special national relic on March 4. Additionally, they are focused on developing unique tourism products, conducting surveys, and organizing conferences to seamlessly network tourist destinations across districts, cities, and towns with local travel agencies, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience for all visitors.

Hanoi’s tourism landscape is set to expand with the introduction of new and exciting tourism products. These include heritage-focused experiential tourism at the Ha Mo tourist site in Dan Phuong District, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Vietnam’s rich history. The “Nam Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Road” route in Thanh Tri, Thuong Tin, and Phu Xuyen districts will offer a journey through time, exploring the area’s cultural treasures. An Phu Commune in My Duc District will showcase the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities through community-based tourism experiences, while Tich Giang Commune in Phuc Tho District invites visitors to explore rural agricultural life.
Hanoi has set its sights on ambitious targets, aiming to welcome 35-39 million tourists by 2025, including 8-9 million international visitors, with expected revenue reaching approximately VND151 trillion ($6.53 billion), as outlined in the city’s recently launched tourism development strategy for 2030. Looking further ahead, the capital city hopes to attract 48-49 million visitors by 2030, including 13-14 million foreigners, solidifying its position as a leading tourist destination.
Hanoi is committed to establishing tourism as its flagship economic sector, serving as a catalyst for growth in other industries. The city plans to leverage the latest technology and invest in qualified human resources to drive tourism growth, ensuring a memorable experience for all who visit. Coordinated efforts and increased investment in tourism infrastructure will play a pivotal role in achieving these ambitious goals.
