The Vietnamese taekwondo team achieved success at the 2023 World Taekwondo Demonstration Team Championships held in South Korea. Competing in the Freestyle class, the team won a silver in the preliminary round and a bronze in the final, showcasing their high level of difficulty. Out of the 20 teams participating, including 18 from host South Korea, one from Italy, and one from Vietnam, the Vietnamese team outperformed their Italian counterparts to secure a gold in the preliminary round. In the final, they earned a bronze, trailing behind two South Korean teams.
The 2023 World Taekwondo Demonstration Team Championships is a significant event within the larger 2023 Gangwon Chuncheon World Taekwondo Cultural Festival, scheduled from August 18 to 24. This festival attracts approximately 15,000 athletes, officials, and tourists from around 60 countries and territories. The Vietnamese taekwondo team, consisting of nine athletes, namely Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh, Nguyen Thi Kim Ha, Tran Ho Duy, Tran Dang Khoa, Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hy, Hua Van Huy, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, and Nguyen Thanh Hien Linh, participated in the festival.
This achievement serves as valuable preparation for the Vietnamese team as they continue to train for the upcoming 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) in Hangzhou, China, in September. Overall, the 2023 World Taekwondo Demonstration Team Championships provides a platform for the Vietnamese team to enhance their skills and showcase their talent on an international stage.
