Atalanta delivered a stunning performance as they thrashed Juventus 4-0 away from home, dealing a huge blow to the hosts’ title hopes.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side were clinical and moved to 58 points, three behind leaders Inter Milan, while Juventus remain fourth on 52 points.
It was a night to forget for Juventus as they suffered their first home defeat in Serie A by a margin of four goals or more since 1967, leaving their fans at the Allianz Stadium jeering in frustration.
“It was an incredible result and a perfect performance from us,” Gasperini told DAZN. “You have to consider the whole journey, Juve were on a good run.”

The game started with end-to-end action, with both teams having early chances. Khephren Thuram came closest for Juventus, shooting just over the crossbar after eight minutes, while Atalanta’s Davide Zappacosta fired wide a minute later.
However, it was Serie A’s top scorer, Mateo Retegui, who broke the deadlock with a well-taken penalty after a handball by Weston McKennie. Retegui now has 22 league goals this season.
Atalanta dominated and could have added to their lead before halftime. Ademola Lookman’s effort hit the woodwork, and only a series of brilliant saves from Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio kept the score at 1-0 going into the break.

Any hopes of a Juventus comeback were dashed early in the second half when Marten de Roon pounced on a rebound to make it 2-0. Zappacosta then added a third, finishing from close range after a brilliant back-heel pass from Sead Kolasinac.
Juventus’ evening went from bad to worse as substitute Dusan Vlahovic slipped and lost possession, allowing Lookman to seal the rout with a deflected shot that beat Di Gregorio.

“We made mistakes, and Atalanta capitalized on them,” said a disappointed Juventus coach Thiago Motta. “We gave players like Lookman too much space, and they punished us on the counter. We are no longer in the title race.”
