In the celebration of the 27th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Ireland, Quang Tri province organize many activities such as: jogging for the community “We run – We share,” handing over mobile rehabilitation vehicles for RENEW project funded by the Government of Ireland, and a lighting ceremony to celebrate Ireland’s National Day (March 17).
At the celebration, Ambassador John McCullagh connected the color green, the color of his homeland, to the Vietnamese people. The green light at Hien Luong Bridge is of special significance because the bridge no longer symbolizes the division of the North and South of Vietnam, but a symbol of connecting people. At the same time, this activity reminds the two sides of the long-standing and close relationship between Ireland – Vietnam.

Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam emphasized that both countries love and cherish peace. Vietnam and Ireland share many similarities in the long, challenging and arduous struggle for independence. Throughout history, Quang Tri was the place where the war for independence of the Vietnamese people took place very fiercely. The loss and sacrifice on this land through wars is countless. Therefore, the people of Quang Tri always understand the value of peace, independence, freedom and national reunification.
“This is the second time the Irish Embassy chooses Quang Tri as the only locality in Vietnam to organize a green lighting activity to celebrate Ireland’s National Day, reaffirming the special relationship between Quang Tri and Ireland”, said Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee.
