Planting the Seeds of Change: Cathay’s ‘1 Ticket, 1 Tree’ Initiative Grows Stronger in its Fourth Year with Cargo Contributions

From July 25 to 31, 2024, Cathay Pacific is launching a special initiative where they will plant one mangrove tree in Southeast Asia for every flight ticket purchased from Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia during this period. This includes tickets bought on their website, mobile app, or through corporate clients using Cathay’s agents.

The ‘1 Ticket, 1 Tree’ program has been a growing success since its launch in 2021, with 30,000 mangrove trees already planted. This initiative has brought together 13 diverse partners, including corporations, non-profits, and local environmental groups, all working together to educate and empower communities. It’s a true testament to Cathay’s commitment to making a positive impact.

Expanding the Initiative: ‘1 Tonne, 1 Tree’

This year, Cathay is taking their tree-planting efforts even further. In addition to flight tickets, they are now including cargo shipments in their sustainability drive. With the introduction of ‘1 Tonne, 1 Tree’, the airline pledges to plant a mangrove tree for every tonne of cargo booked by Cathay Cargo’s agents and shippers in Southeast Asia during the specified period.

This expansion showcases Cathay’s dedication to fostering partnerships and driving collective action for a greener future.

“We are thrilled by the support for our ‘1 Ticket, 1 Tree’ initiative across Southeast Asia,” said Dominic Perret, Cathay’s Regional General Manager for Southeast Asia. “The expansion into cargo shipments is a natural progression, and we’re grateful to have our cargo agents on board. Together, we can make an even bigger difference in ensuring the health and growth of our vital mangrove forests.”

Ashish Kapur, Cathay’s Regional Head of Cargo for Southeast Asia, added, “Our cargo partners have been incredibly receptive to this initiative. By joining forces, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of mangrove forests in our ecosystem and make it easy for anyone to contribute to this worthy cause.”
