The official visit of the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess of Denmark began with the official welcome ceremony hosted by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan at the Presidential Palace and followed by a courtesy meeting with President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Welcoming the Danish guests, Xuan considered the visit a specially meaningful event marking the half-of-century development of the bilateral traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation, and opening up new prospects for the ties.
Informing the guests of Vietnam’s outstanding socio-economic development achievements as well as its priority goals, Xuan expressed her belief that Vietnam will continue receiving cooperation from Denmark in this process.
Frederik affirmed that towards the establishment of the Vietnam – Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, the bilateral cooperation in the environment and climate change adaptation has entered a period of more practical and effective collaboration.
Denmark is willing to accompany and support Vietnam in its efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, he stressed.
The Vietnamese Vice President said that with the support of the Danish Royal Family and the Crown Prince, the bilateral Comprehensive Partnership continues to be consolidated and developed in all fields, through the maintenance of all-level delegation exchanges and close cooperation at multilateral forums, especially in 2023 when the two sides celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their partnership.
She also showed her hope that more and more Danish enterprises effectively invest in and do business in Vietnam, and the two sides will expand cooperation activities in education-training, culture, labour and people-to-people exchange.
She also took the occasion to thank Denmark for supporting the Vietnamese community living in the country.

Meanwhile, President Phuc highly valued the special sentiments that the Royal Family, Government and people of Denmark have given to Vietnam during the country’s national construction and development.
Crown Prince Frederik said he is excited to visit Vietnam, a country that holds a special position in the Danish Royal Family and himself, and congratulated Vietnam on the impressive achievements in socio-economic development and international integration.
He said he is impressed by the sound development of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, underlining that businesses accompanying him are keen on seeking partnership opportunities with their Vietnamese peers, especially in green growth, renewable energy and energy efficiency.
He said his country shares with Vietnam the vision on sustainable development, and showed impression on Vietnam’s efforts in implementing the commitment to achieve net-zero emission in 2050, saying that he believes Vietnam and Denmark are having numerous opportunities to boost cooperation in green growth and energy transition.
The Danish Crown Prince also expressed his hope to promote the establishment of a green strategic partnership to further lift up the effective and substantial cooperation between the two countries.
President Phuc highlighted that positive developments have been seen in the Vietnam-Denmark friendship and comprehensive partnership, especially in the areas of politics-diplomacy, trade-investment, environment, education-training, and people-to-people exchange.
Currently, Denmark is an important partner of Vietnam in Europe and northern Europe, with two-way trade reaching nearly 600 million USD in 2021. Denmark has become the third largest investor in Vietnam with a USD 1 billion Lego factory project which pushed the total Danish investment in Vietnam to USD 1.78 billion.
Underlining that there is still room for the two countries to expand their cooperation, the Vietnamese leader expressed his hope that the Danish Royal Family and Government will continue to support the promotion of the comprehensive partnership in the future.
He asked for Denmark’s assistance in experience, technology and finance for the implementation of climate commitments while expressing his belief that Danish enterprises will be successful in Vietnam in areas of Denmark’s strength and Vietnam’s demand, thus effectively grasping opportunities from the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
The two sides agreed to expand cooperation in education, training, culture and tourism to foster their friendship and mutual understanding, contributing to bolstering the developing ties between the two countries.

The official program of the visit continued with the grand opening of the Denmark – Vietnam Sustainable Energy Summit where the Crown Prince Couple, together with a number of high-level representatives of the government of Vietnam, witnessed the signing of 14 Memorandum of Understanding between Danish and Vietnamese companies.
Following the grand opening of the Denmark – Vietnam Sustainable Energy Summit were the two seminars ‘Exploring the role for Danish know-how and technology in building a wind industry in Vietnam’ and ‘Improving energy efficiency in the industry towards net zero emissions target by 2050’.
The first day of the official visit concluded with a grand dinner and a gala performance by renowned Vietnamese and Danish artists to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam.
