The name of the waterfall originates from a tragic love story. According to legend, a village chief’s daughter fell in love with the son of a neighboring village chief. They made a promise to be together, but the man joined the army and tragically died in battle.
The girl went to the mountain where they had made their promise and sang a sorrowful song. She sang until she could no longer stand. Nearby, a herd of elephants heard her singing and turned into stone. Suddenly, there was a loud explosion that split the mountain in two, causing water to rush off it.
