The inaugural Hanoi Short Film Festival, themed “For a Thousand-year-old Hanoi,” commenced on August 26, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the capital’s Liberation Day. This festival celebrates Hanoi’s rich history and serves as a platform for artistic expression.
People’s Artist Tran Quoc Chiem, Chairman of the Hanoi Art and Literature Association, emphasized the festival’s significance. He stated that it showcases the unique styles and diverse cinematic languages of Hanoi’s artists through their short films. The festival jury, comprised of renowned film artists, will evaluate the entries, offering a creative and colorful perspective on Hanoi’s rich cultural heritage.

Chiem further stressed the festival’s aim to discover and honor talented writers and works in Hanoi cinema. He expressed his hope for entries that cultivate an elegant style, foster patriotism, and showcase the city’s thousand-year civilization.
Tran Thi Van Anh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, highlighted the festival’s role in developing the city’s filmmaking talent and cultural industries. She said, “The Hanoi Short Film Festival 2024 is expected to enhance the quality of human resources in filmmaking and cultural development in the capital, with a vision towards 2030-2045.”
The festival provides an opportunity for Hanoi’s filmmakers to showcase their skills and create works that reflect the reality of the city. With 32 entries, including documentaries, animations, and shorts, the festival promises a diverse showcase of cinematic talent.
Additionally, the Hanoi Cinema Association will organize seminars and screenings during the festival, offering a holistic experience for attendees and further emphasizing the festival’s role in celebrating Hanoi’s artistic community.
