The Hanoi Book Festival is not only part of the activities to mark the 65th anniversary of the capital’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2019), but also an annual activity enthusiastically responded to by society, with the goal of building the habit of reading and buying books in the community, and becoming a bridge connecting readers with publishers and distributors.

This year, the scale of the festival is greater than previously, attracting the participation of many prestigious publishing units from both at home and abroad, with about 200 pavilions.

The book titles feature various topics in different areas, such as politics-law, economics, science-technology, education, literature and culture-society.

As in previous years, the 2019 festival offers many discount programmes and other gratitude activities according to the characteristics of each publishing unit.

In particular, this year’s event features the participation of some diplomatic agencies in Hanoi (the Indian and French embassies), the ASEAN Book Publishers Association, the Publishers Association of the Philippines, the Myanmar Publishers Association, and 14 publishing houses from Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.

Readers have the chance to explore the books in native languages brought to the event by foreigner publishers.

The festival enables domestic publishing units to exchange and explore information in the field of international publication, as well as carry out transactions and sign cooperation deals on publishing books and purchasing/selling/exchanging book copyrights.

This is also an occasion for Hanoi’s readers to access and explore different cultures in the region and around the world through activities held at the pavilions of foreign embassies.

Introducing various types of books, the Hanoi Book Festival attracts a large crowd of readers of various ages.

Many elderly readers are the familiar attendants at book festivals of different scales in Hanoi.

An array of activities are scheduled within the framework of the event aiming to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Hanoi Liberation Day, including a programme titled Memories of Autumn, a historical flag hoisting ceremony that reproduces the first flag hoisting ceremony on the day of Hanoi’s liberation, an exchange programme with historical witnesses, and the launching of a photo book.

With quality products and various activities, the sixth Hanoi Book Festival 2019 promises to bring rewarding moments to readers and book enthusiasts in the early autumn days.
