Vietnamese runners dominate women's 5,000m event at SEA Games 32
Local runners Nguyen Thi Oanh and Pham Thi Hong Le continued to dominate the women’s 5,000m event in the Southeast Asian arena by grabbing one gold and one silver medal at SEA Games 32 held on May 8 in Cambodia.
The Bac Giang native is 28-years-old and previously dominated the Southeast Asian competition at the 29th, 30th, and 31st SEA Games by winning a total of eight gold medals in the women’s 1,500m, 3,000m obstacle, and 5,000m events.
They compete at the Morodok Techo stadium amid heavy rain.
The Vietnamese athlete gets ahead and maintains her leading position until the end of the competition.
Oanh tops the race after clocking a time of 17 minutes and 0.28 seconds.
Pham Thi Hong Le comes second in the women’s 5,000m event with a time of 17 minutes and 6 seconds.
Oanh, who stands at 1.50 metres tall, brings home a gold medal for the nation.
Her teammate Le wins a silver medal in the same event.
Local athletes Tran Nhat Hoang, Nguyen Thi Hang, Tran Dinh Son, and Nguyen Thi Huyen obtain another gold medal for Vietnam in the mixed 4 × 400 metres relay event with a record of 3 minutes and 20.19 seconds.
