In response to the invitation, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka joined forces to set up a cultural booth at the festival. This booth was created as an opportunity to introduce the people of Sri Lanka to the Vesak Day or Buddha’s Birthday celebration, an event that is deeply rooted in Vietnam’s Buddhist culture. The booth was staffed by dignitaries, monks, nuns, and followers of Buddhism from the Vietnamese community living in Sri Lanka, providing them with a chance to showcase their culture and tradition to the world.
The Vietnamese booth featured aspects of Vietnamese national culture and Buddhism, which is reflected through the use of decorative materials, such as bamboo and lotus flowers.
At the booth, visitors had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of Vietnamese Buddhism, as well as explore the cultural exchanges between Sri Lanka and Vietnam that have taken place throughout history.
Upon addressing the festival, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ho Thi Thanh Truc expressed her gratitude to Sri Lankan leaders for their endeavors to foster the long-standing friendship and comprehensive partnership between the two countries, including Buddhist heritage.
