Xi ma phu originated in China but through time has become a specialty of the ancient town of Hoi An. It is a favorite dish for many domestic and international visitors thanks to its unique taste and smell.
The main ingredient of xi ma phu is of course black sesame seeds. The maker can add some local ingredients such as kudzu flour, sweet potato starch, and some fragrant herbs. Therefore, xi ma phu is not only tasty but also very good for health.
Ngo Thieu is one of the most well known xi ma phu makers in Hoi An. However, he has retired due to old age and his offspring are now in charge of his business.
To introduce the xi ma phu making tradition to visitors, the Hoi An Center for Culture, Sports, Radio and Television cooperates with local authorities and Ngo Thieu family to organize the event.
In addition to learning how to make xi ma phu, participants will visit Ba Le Well, an ancient water well that has rich historical, cultural and architectural values.
The event will begin at 8:45 a.m. at Ngo Thieu’s home, No. 45/17 Tran Hung Dao Street.
