Devastating Floods in Ha Giang Province

Three people were swept away and tragically lost their lives in the floods. Their bodies were recovered after a thorough search by authorities.

Lo Thi Cho, a 42-year-old woman, was identified as one of the victims. She lost her life in a devastating landslide triggered by the relentless heavy rainfall.

The rainfall measurements from 7 PM on June 9 to 9 AM on June 10 reveal the severity: 320mm in Thuong Son commune and 279mm in Quang Ngan commune.

The impact of the floods is widespread, with 350 houses submerged in Ha Giang City and 4 houses inundated in Hoang Su Phi district. Sadly, three houses completely collapsed in Xin Man and Vi Xuyen districts. The landslides have damaged 0.12 hectares of rice fields in Ta Su Choong commune, and the flooding has affected dozens of crop fields in Ha Giang City.

The floods have caused extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture in the region.

Livestock farms have also suffered greatly, with countless chickens and birds perishing in the floods.

The floods have washed away two local bridges in Thuan Hoa and Thanh Thuy communes, Vi Xuyen District, further isolating the communities.

Major roads from Ha Giang City to Dong Van and Meo Vac districts are now inaccessible, leaving tourists and residents stranded in Meo Vac District.

The initial damage estimate stands at nearly VND19.5 billion (US$769,000), a devastating blow to the region.
