This project stands as a shining example of successful foreign investment by Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam). In 2024, it exceeded production targets, achieving a daily output of 15,331 barrels, 8% above the target set by Petrovietnam. This resulted in an impressive yearly total of 5.61 million barrels. The cumulative production since 2015 reached nearly 57 million barrels by the end of 2024. Furthermore, daily production in 2025 has climbed even higher, reaching between 17,000 and 17,500 barrels.
The project’s success is largely attributed to the dedication and expertise of PVEP engineers. In 2024, they completed a comprehensive overhaul of the processing plant, including essential maintenance and pressure testing of equipment after a decade of operation. This proactive approach paid dividends, as the work was finished 10 days ahead of schedule, resulting in an additional 165,000 barrels of output and a revenue boost of 11.55 million USD.
Moving forward, PVEP aims to strengthen its partnerships to expedite new contract packages and tap into new wells during the second phase. This strategic move targets even higher production levels. Additionally, the company intends to pursue new opportunities in promising Algerian blocks to solidify its presence in this North African country.
Ambassador Khanh emphasized the importance of continued support for Vietnamese engineers, recognizing their expertise as a pivotal factor in the success of future projects. He also addressed challenges in project execution and expansion, underscoring the need to enhance the oil and gas relationship between Vietnam and Algeria.
Furthermore, Ambassador Khanh encouraged PVEP to forge additional agreements with Algerian counterparts. He assured the company of the embassy’s unwavering political support to ensure the well-being and success of Vietnamese professionals in Algeria.
Algeria has firmly established itself as one of the top three oil producers in Africa. With estimated reserves of 5.7 billion tonnes (approximately 38 billion barrels) and a daily output nearing 180,000 tonnes (1.2 million barrels), the country ranks 12th globally in oil production and 9th in exports.
