Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, the Vietnam Culinary Culture Association and the Nam Dinh administration jointly held the press meeting to introduce the activities in response to the Day of Pho.

December 12 was officially designated as the ‘Day of Pho’ – a celebration of Vietnam’s most popular dish – in 2018, one year after the first ‘Day of Pho’ was initiated and held by Tuoi Tre.

Numerous Pho Day events have since become annual cultural and culinary activities, aiming to further promote pho, a Vietnamese soup consisting of broth, rice noodles, herbs and meat – usually beef or chicken.

This year’s Day of Pho gala, with the theme of Tinh hoa hoi tu (Convergence of quintessence) will take place in Nam Dinh Province in northern Vietnam from December 10 to 12.

From now until the end of December, many activities celebrating the annual event will be held.

In addition to traditional activities such as a contest to find outstanding pho cooks, a writing competition about pho, the organizers have offered pho lovers many other activities.

Notably, a pho quiz game recently wrapped up after receiving enthusiastic response from nearly 40 pho shops from southern and northern Vietnam and hundreds of diners.

This two-day program was joined by celebrities such as beauty queen H’Hen Niê, singer Ha Van, MC Vu Manh Cuong and some popular TikTokers.

Besides, a program that helps wives of the ambassadors to Vietnam experience preparing and enjoying pho will be held.

Within the event’s gala in Nam Dinh, a workshop titled Huong pho bay xa (The aroma of pho spreads far) will be held to receive ideas to popularize the Vietnamese specialty across the five continents, the organizers said.

At the press briefing, Tran Xuan Toan, deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre, said that this year, the organizers have decided to organize the Day of Pho gala in Nam Dinh as it is one of the ‘cradles’ of pho.

“This is one of the most quintessential places of culinary culture in general and Vietnamese pho in particular, and a place to gather many pho artisans and chefs who have introduced Vietnamese pho to everyone,” Toan said.

Some of the Day of Pho events actually kicked off at the end of September, including the launch of the contest ‘Finding the best pho chef’, whose preliminary round for the northern region was organized on Friday morning.

Five winners of the round received the congratulations from La Quoc Khanh, standing vice president of the Vietnam Culinary Culture Association, who also thanked Tuoi Tre for organizing the Day of Pho.

Khanh expressed his pleasure at the cooperation between the association and Tuoi Tre in the event that helps broadly introduce Vietnamese traditional pho to foreign tourists, thereby contributing to promoting Vietnamese cuisine values and developing the country’s tourism sector.

According to the organizers, the preliminary round of the pho cooking contest for the southern region will be launched on November 11.

The final round of the contest will take place on December 10-11 in Nam Dinh, under the framework the Day of Pho gala at Vi Xuyen Park of the province.
