The emerging singer, known as AMEE, premiered her new song ‘Sao anh chua ve nha’ (Why don’t you come home) on YouTube, Google’s video-sharing platform, on Thursday evening.

The music video quickly gained popularity, reaching one million views within four hours, and currently holds the top spot on YouTube’s trending videos in Vietnam.

The video’s plot takes inspiration from various Disney characters including Aurora and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella from Cinderella, Rapunzel from Tangled, Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

However, some viewers have drawn comparisons between the music video and Taylor Swift’s hit song ‘Blank Space’, which has over 2.5 billion views on YouTube.

Facebook users pointed out that both singers portray jealous and wealthy women living in grand castles with handsome lovers in their respective music videos.

In addition, certain scenes in AMEE’s ‘Sao anh chua ve nha’, such as sitting at a dining table, crying with mascara running down her cheeks, and slitting a portrait of her lover due to suspicion of infidelity, bear similarities to shots in Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’.

However, fans argue that Taylor Swift’s portrayal is more satirical and violent, while AMEE’s performance is humorous and feminine.

The administrator of a Facebook community for Vietnamese Taylor Swift fans shared a collage of these scenes, sparking debates about potential plagiarism in AMEE’s music video.

The production team behind the video admitted that Taylor Swift was indeed an inspiration, as they consider her a princess like the Disney princesses featured in AMEE’s video.

When brainstorming scenes depicting a jealous woman raging over suspicions about her lover, Taylor Swift came to mind for the team who are all fans of hers.

They expressed their apology if this caused any unhappiness among Swift’s fans, emphasizing that their work comes from a place of respect and fandom.

AMEE, whose real name is Tran Huyen My, was born in 2000. ‘Sao anh chua ve nha’ is her fourth music video, marking one year since her singing debut.
